Olivia Bennett’s Next Chapter – From World Traveler to Life at Sea

Some journeys are planned months in advance. We book our flights, choose our hotels, and make lists of places we want to visit. And then there are journeys that begin quite differently. With a conversation. An unexpected encounter. Or a simple idea that gradually changes the way we imagine our future. My next great adventure began in just that way.

The World Still Has So Much to Offer

I’m sixty years old, and I still set off on my travels with the same curiosity I had decades ago. I love the energy of airports, the first moments in an unfamiliar city, little cafés tucked away on quiet streets, and conversations that stay with me long after a journey ends. But my relationship with travel has changed over the years.

These days, I’m less interested in counting the countries I’ve visited or the famous landmarks I’ve photographed. What matters more is understanding the places I discover. How do people live here? What gives a city its character? Where do locals go for their morning coffee? What stories are hidden behind those beautiful old buildings? These are the experiences I’ve always wanted to share through Wonders of the World.

A Friendship That Changed My Direction

In an earlier story, I shared how I met Viktoria, the founder of Victoria Cruises Line, during an evening in Florence. Much has happened since then, but one idea has continued to return to our conversations. Why must every journey eventually come to an end? What if exploring the world could become part of everyday life, rather than something we do only during our holidays? When Viktoria first introduced me to the idea of a residential ship, I saw it as an extraordinary opportunity to travel. Over time, however, I began to realize that it could mean something much more personal. A different way of living. And that is why I’ve decided to become a future resident of Victoria Cruises Line.

Familiar Ports, a Different Perspective

Recently, I’ve been spending time traveling through Europe, visiting several destinations included in Victoria Cruises Line’s proposed itinerary. Savona, Marseille, Naples, and Livorno each have their own atmosphere, personality, and stories to tell. But something has changed in the way I experience these places. In the past, I arrived simply as a traveler. Now, I sometimes imagine what it might feel like to return one day as a resident arriving aboard my floating home. To revisit a favorite café. To walk through a familiar neighborhood. To return to a market where I once spent a wonderful morning. Perhaps that is one of the most beautiful possibilities of life at sea. The world doesn’t have to be a collection of places we visit once and leave behind. Some destinations can become places we return to, again and again.

A New Chapter for Wonders of the World

I want this blog to remain what it has always meant to me: a place for curiosity, discovery, and stories from around the world. But I also want to bring something new to these pages. In the coming months, I’ll be sharing fresh travel stories, favorite hidden corners, local markets, memorable meals, and personal discoveries from destinations both familiar and new. There will be city guides, travel diaries, and stories about places I would happily return to. Because I don’t believe we ever truly finish discovering a destination. There is always another street to explore, another conversation to have, another story waiting to be found. And sometimes, returning to a place teaches us more than visiting somewhere new.

The Adventure Is Just Beginning

Victoria Cruises Line is still preparing for its planned launch, so my new life at sea remains a chapter yet to begin. But the journey toward it has already started. And while I continue traveling, I look forward to sharing my discoveries, thoughts, and experiences with you here. I hope you’ll join me. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned at sixty, it’s that some of life’s most exciting chapters begin just when we think we’ve already seen it all.

With love,

Olivia Bennett
