Olivia Bennett’s Travel Diary – 72 Hours in Doha, Qatar
The Qatar Airways stopover flight was a brilliant idea. I didn’t have to travel for 30 hours straight or spend endless hours waiting at the airport. After the Maldives, I had time to explore Qatar as well. The weather in the United States isn’t great right now anyway — so why not spend 72 hours in Doha instead? It turned out to be a fantastic decision.

Doha in 3 days? Yes, it’s absolutely possible — and completely worth it. This Doha travel guide is the perfect itinerary if you’d like to explore this Middle Eastern gem during a longer layover or a short city break.
Day 1 – Souq Waqif and the World of Falcons
Our first stop was the vibrant Souq Waqif — yes Victoria, I know, the heart of every city is always its market! You can find literally everything here: spices, textiles, perfumes, handcrafted goods.

My guide, Jay, also took me to the falcon “nursery” and the famous Falcon Hospital. In Qatar, owning a falcon is a status symbol, and when the owners are away, these majestic birds receive specialized care. The hospital has four floors entirely dedicated to falcon treatment and well-being. I even heard about wing transplant procedures — difficult to process at first, but there’s no doubt the birds receive exceptional care.
This is truly one of the most unique experiences in Doha.
Day 2 – The Corniche, Old Port & Modern Doha
Visiting the Doha Corniche is a must. The 7-kilometer waterfront promenade is one of the city’s most iconic spots, offering stunning views of the skyline and traditional dhow boats.

The Old Port completely surprised me. Who would have thought Doha loves pastel colors this much? The charming cobblestone streets felt like stepping into a Disney movie. I seriously considered organizing a pastel-inspired exhibition in my New York gallery… who knows?

Not far from here is the colorful and trendy Box Park Doha, built from recycled shipping containers. Doha is clearly moving in the right direction when it comes to sustainability — and I love that.
Day 3 – Mosques, Desert & Culture
The stunning Katara Mosque — also known as the Blue Mosque — completely captivated me with its Turkish and Persian tilework. It was designed by a Turkish woman, which adds special significance to the building. It reminded me of the mosques I previously visited in Istanbul.
If you want to escape the city for a day, a desert excursion is essential. Dune bashing in a four-wheel-drive vehicle was a full adrenaline rush — racing up and down golden dunes, endless horizons, glowing sunlight.
The cultural highlight was Katara Cultural Village. As Qatar’s largest cultural center, it brings together art, theater, and heritage. I spent two hours exploring the amphitheater and traditional architecture.

Culinary Experience – Parisa West Bay
One of my most memorable dinners took place at Parisa West Bay. This luxurious Persian restaurant is both a visual and culinary experience. Thousands of tiny mirrors and glittering chandeliers decorate the interior, and the kebabs with saffron rice are simply unforgettable.

Why Spend 72 Hours in Doha?
Every location I visited in Qatar offered something unique. Cultural landmarks, modern attractions, desert adventures, and luxury dining all combined to make this trip unforgettable.
Doha in 3 days is absolutely doable — and every minute is worth it.
If you’re traveling to the Maldives, consider adding a stopover. You might fall in love with this special city too.
