Having lived in Tuscany for over ten years, I still discover places that surprise me. One of my latest discoveries is Castello di Celsa, near Siena, nestled in a lush forest close to Sovicille. Hidden among the trees, it feels like a secret retreat. Yet, walking through the woods and arriving at its gates, you immediately sense that this is more than history – it’s a sanctuary of calm.

The castle is not among Tuscany’s most famous landmarks, which makes it even more appealing. There are no crowds here – you can truly feel time slow down. Following interest from friends after my previous blog about a Florida wedding at Villa Corsini, I started looking at wedding venues for 2026, and Castello di Celsa was an unforgettable option. This historic residence is perfect for a celebration that is elegant, intimate, and unforgettable.

The Gardens and Chapel
One of Celsa’s greatest treasures is its Renaissance garden. Walking through the symmetrical hedges, flower beds, and statues, it feels as though you’ve stepped into another era. The meticulously maintained pathways beckon exploration, and a charming lemon house hides at the edge of the park. In autumn, the deep red foliage transforms the gardens into a living painting, while in spring, the fragrant blooms fill the air.

Within the estate stands the Peruzzi Chapel, designed by renowned Renaissance architect Baldassarre Peruzzi. Its circular, simple, and elegant structure is a popular choice for wedding ceremonies. From the garden, a tree-lined avenue leads to the reflective pond – a peaceful spot ideal for photography or quiet contemplation.
Visiting Information
Castello di Celsa is privately owned, and visits require prior booking. The gardens and chapel are open on Tuesdays and Saturday mornings, with guided tours available in Italian, English, or German. Reservations can be made at info@castellodicelsa.com
Nearby, the legendary San Galgano Abbey is a must-see, famous for its roofless ruins and the sword in the stone. I’ve written about this mystical site before, but every visit offers a new perspective – the same magic in different light and seasons.

For me, Castello di Celsa is proof that Tuscany never runs out of hidden gems. Whether for weddings, photography, or a private visit, every moment here feels slower, more beautiful, and unforgettable.
