History
Cherbourg was a significant port during the Roman Empire, playing a vital role in international trade and territorial conquests. Later, it became a strategic point during the Hundred Years’ War between England and France. In the 20th century, Cherbourg was occupied by German forces during World War II. In 1944, the Allied forces arrived in Normandy as part of the D-Day operation. As one of the largest ports in Normandy, Cherbourg was a critical target.
