A Delicious Tradition That Never Gets Old** Best Street Crepes in France: Discover the Top Paris Crêpes You Must Try

There are street foods you try once… and then there are the ones that stay with you for life. For me, it’s the French crêpe.

I still remember the first time — nearly 20 years ago — wandering down the Champs-Élysées, when a small stand served me a freshly made crêpe filled with ham and cheese. Simple. Warm. Perfect. I can still recall the taste. No fancy restaurant could ever match that feeling: a hot crêpe in hand, and the magic of Paris unfolding around you.

Even now, when I make crêpes at home, I’m reminded of that moment — although I can’t say I enjoy the mess. And really, can anything beat walking down a pretty Parisian street with a freshly made crêpe? I doubt it. No trip to Paris is truly complete without sampling the very best street crêpes the city has to offer.

Crêpes and French Traditions — A Little Quirky, A Lot Delicious

The French have a charming ability to place food at the center of every tradition — religious, seasonal, or somewhere in between. Does it disrupt my bathroom scale? Absolutely. Do I mind? Not really.

Take Candlemas (La Chandeleur), for example — a Catholic holiday where, instead of simply eating crêpes, the French add a delightful pagan twist: fortune-telling. The idea is simple (in theory):
If you can flip a crêpe with one hand while holding a coin in the other, your family will enjoy prosperity throughout the year.

Easier said than done. I love the ritual — and the hysterical chaos it tends to cause  The French really do know how to keep things entertaining.

Brands certainly don’t: Nutella and Tefal have now declared all of February to be “Crêpe Month.” France is basically one big crêpe party .

Where to Find the Best Street Crêpes in France

Crêpes may have originated in Brittany, but today they’re everywhere — and the quality varies wildly. In big cities like Paris, Lyon, Montpellier, or Marseille, you’ll spot crêpe stands on busy corners, in markets, and at every festival. And the crowds speak for themselves.

But my absolute favourite? It’s hidden in the heart of Montmartre.

La Crêperie Mon Ami — The Sweetest Corner of Montmartre

Tucked on the corner of the historic Rue Lepic, La Crêperie Mon Ami is a tiny stand that has earned a loyal following — and for good reason. This place serves some of the best street crêpes in Paris.

Louise first brought me here, and ever since, it has been my go-to stop. What amazes me most is how the owner works in a space so small that two people would struggle to stand inside — yet every crêpe is made with flawless precision.

Tip: They do not accept credit cards, so bring euros.

Once you’ve got your warm crêpe in hand, stroll through the winding streets of Montmartre, or sit at one of the two tiny tables across from the stand. As for the crêpes? They’re so good I could eat them plain. Louise swears the caramel is “the chef’s kiss” — and she’s right.

How to Eat Crêpes Like a Parisian (Crêpe Etiquette)

Since most stands don’t offer seating, eating while walking is perfectly acceptable — at least for tourists.

Parisians, however, usually avoid eating on the go. So if you want to blend in, find a quiet bench or a little corner in a nearby park and savour each bite.

Crêpes aren’t just street food in Paris — they’re a ritual, a memory, a tiny warm moment in a city that knows how to make every tradition delicious.
