The Stavanger Cathedral, founded in 1125, is a testament to the early spread of Christianity in Norway and remains an iconic symbol of the city. During the Industrial Revolution, Stavanger became a center for fishing and canning industries, and in the 20th century, the boom of Norway’s oil industry ushered in a new era in its history.

There are three huge bronze swords, each 10 metres high, set into the rock of a small hill in a beautiful fjord. The monument is a symbol of a historic battle that took place in 872, when King Harald gathered all of Norway under one crown. King Harald is the largest sword, and the two smaller swords are the two fallen kings he defeated.
This monument also symbolises peace in Norway and the swords can never be removed.
