History
Cairo’s history dates back more than a thousand years, but the areas that preceded it have played a significant role since ancient times. The city was founded in 969 by the Fatimids and has been Egypt’s most important centre ever since. Over time, it has been shaped by Arab, Turkish and British influences, while its pyramids and mummy heritage remain one of Cairo’s greatest attractions.
