24 Hours in Paris – A One-Day Itinerary Filled with Food, Art, and Romance

When Louis suggested ideas for exploring Paris in just one day, I knew I couldn’t tick off every landmark. Instead, I wanted to feel the rhythm of the city: its flavors, its art, its hidden corners. So here’s my perfect 24 hours in Paris – a journey that captures the city’s soul.

Morning: Bastille Market & Croissants

Sundays in Paris move slower, and that’s the charm. My day began with a buttery croissant and cappuccino at a local boulangerie, before heading to the Bastille Market, which takes place only on Thursdays and Sundays.

This neighborhood, once the stage of the French Revolution, still carries history in its stones. Today, the July Column crowned by the Genius of Liberty rises where the fortress once stood.

The market is alive with color and character: flower sellers, cheese stands, olives, and baskets of ripe fruits. One stall owner argued passionately about the perfect way to sear duck breast; elsewhere, chefs browsed discreetly behind sunglasses. Following Louis’ advice, I started on the left – flowers first, then cheese and olives, ending with the freshest produce.

Lunch: Le Bistrot de l’Oulette

After the market stroll, I sat down for a perfect Sunday lunch at Le Bistrot de l’Oulette. Warm, welcoming, and unpretentious, it’s the kind of place where locals gather. The menu reflects the season’s offerings from the market, but the confit de canard is a constant star. Pair it with a glass of French red, and you’ll understand why Paris is irresistible.

Afternoon: Picasso, Pompidou & Sweet Delights

The Musée National Picasso in the Marais was my next stop – home to the world’s largest public Picasso collection. Housed in a grand hôtel particulier, the museum reveals not just the artist’s genius but also his muses and personal journey.

Instead of the Louvre or Notre Dame, I chose a romantic walk with my husband, letting the autumn air guide us through the streets. Still, I couldn’t resist a quick detour: the Centre Pompidou for its ever-changing modern art exhibits, and then the Paris Garnier Opera House. Nearby, I treated myself to a pastry at Cédric Grolet Opéra, where desserts are as much art as indulgence.

Evening: Montmartre Magic

No Paris itinerary is complete without Montmartre. Taking the metro to Abbesses, the city’s deepest station, I climbed 144 painted steps decorated by the Paris-Montmartre art association. The effort was rewarded with the neighborhood’s bohemian charm.

A small bookshop stop felt essential – a piece of Montmartre to carry home. And if you’re lucky to visit in October (8–12), you’ll witness the Fête des Vendanges, Montmartre’s annual harvest festival. With only 2000 vines left on the hill, the vineyard still produces nearly 2000 bottles of Pinot Noir and Gamay each year – a true Parisian treasure.

Dinner: Chez Pitou

To end the day, I headed to Chez Pitou – cozy, seasonal, and authentic. Think home-style French dishes, affordable wines, and the kind of atmosphere where strangers quickly become friends.

Final Thoughts

Spending 24 hours in Paris isn’t about checking off every monument. It’s about savoring moments: a bite of confit duck, a Picasso sketch, a hidden vineyard on a hill. The City of Light is endless, but even in one day, it offers enough beauty and flavor to fall in love all over again.
